Kilby St Mary's Governing Body
Kilby St Mary’s Church of England Primary School’s Governing Body has a legal responsibility for governance of the school and works with the Headteacher and other school staff to promote high standards of educational achievement at the school.
The governing body has three key roles: setting strategic direction, holding executive leaders to account and overseeing financial performance.
It is responsible and accountable for all major decisions about the school and its future including:
- setting the school’s mission, vision and values
- setting strategic direction, objectives, targets and policies
- reviewing progress against the budget, plans and targets
- approving the school budget
- acting as a critical friend to the Headteacher by providing support and challenge
- appointing the Headteacher
- ensuring the school is accountable to those it serves
Kilby St Mary’s is a voluntary aided Church of England school and it welcomes children from all faiths as well as those with none.
Its governing body has a responsibility to reflect the community it serves and it is made up of Parent Governors, Staff Governors, Governors appointed by the local education authority and Foundation Governors. All Governors have a collective responsibility for strategic oversight of the school and Foundation Governors have an additional duty to uphold the Christian ethos of the school. At Kilby St Mary’s, the Head teacher is also a serving Governor.

Kilby has three Link Governors with oversight of the following issues: Safeguarding, SEND and whole school wellbeing.
